Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack is opposed to any effort to pass a sweeping government takeover of health care. She is committed to working on meaningful health care reform that will fix what is broken and make quality health care more affordable and reduce the number of uninsured Americans.
More Affordable Health Care for All Americans
Increase Transparency between patients, doctors and their insurance companies, keeping them aware of the costs and helping them make informed decisions about the treatment they need.
Eliminate waste, fraud and abuse that cost taxpayers billions dollars each year.
Enact comprehensive medical liability reform, reducing costly defensive medicine practiced by doctors trying to protect themselves from overzealous trial lawyers.
Allow states, small businesses, associations, and other organizations to band together to offer health insurance at lower costs.
Force insurance companies to compete across state lines, bringing more options to patients and allowing them to easily choose the plan that best meets their needs.
Making Health Care More Available & Accessible for All Americans:
Reduce the number of uninsured Americans by helping Americans keep health care coverage, regardless of a change in or loss of a job.
Enact insurance reforms that hold insurance companies more accountable.
- Americans with pre-existing conditions or past illnesses must be guaranteed access to affordable coverage.
- Insurance companies should not be able to cancel people’s policies unless they commit fraud or conceal material facts about a health condition.
- Our future leaders should be able to stay on their parents’ health care plan while in school.
- High risk state pools should be required so that Americans in need have affordable coverage.
- Workers should have better insurance portability so that they can clearly take their insurance with them when they start new jobs, which is especially important in this economy.
- Insurance companies must provide consumers with a timely appeals process.

Address uncompensated care – Recognizing the real problems of overcrowding in emergency rooms and too many people not being able to pay their bills, Congresswoman Bono Mack has legislation that will help alleviate the burden of uncompensated care for health care providers.
Emphasizing Preventative Care and Wellness
• Investing in prevention and wellness makes sense; it saves money in the long run by preventing costly disease treatments and promotes health and quality of life.
